Stronger Communities grant to help Little Haven Palliative Care
Little Haven Palliative Care in Gympie will be able to upgrade its patient lounge and meeting room after receiving $14,980 funding through round three of the Stronger Communities Programme, Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced today.
Little Haven is a highly regarded service that has delivered in home care, comfort, support and care to people with terminal illness or with chronic conditions requiring palliative care, for decades, with nurses servicing the Gympie region including Kilkivan and the Cooloola Coast.
“This funding will allow Little Haven to upgrade its patient lounge and meeting room, delivering increased opportunities for group sessions and educational activities, greater privacy for counselling, and improved access for patients and carers visiting the centre,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Little Haven’s vital service ensures quality care at the end of life, and helps keep patients in their place of choice, in the security comfort and familiar surrounds of their home.
“I appreciate and value the work Little Haven does, and I will continue to identify additional funding opportunities to ensure it can continue to deliver better health outcomes for the Gympie region.”
Funding was also provided through round three of the Stronger Communities program for Cooloola Coast Medical Transport and Kilkivan Men’s Shed, with other beneficiaries to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme is designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000. Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year.
The grants are available to not-for-profit organisations and local councils. Applications for the third round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.
