RHEINMETALL NIOA MARYBOROUGH OFFICE OPENS

November 15, 2019

The Rheinmetall NIOA Maryborough office was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack and Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien today.

Mr O’Brien said the office, located in the Heritage City’s historic former Commonwealth Bank building on Adelaide Street, is another step in the major defence industry project that is set to transform Maryborough’s industrial base.

“Between 15 and 20 people will be employed in the office which is great news for jobs in Maryborough,” Mr O’Brien said.

“It’s fantastic to see one of Maryborough’s most iconic commercial buildings being brought back to life in this way and it’s a credit to the Nioa family’s ongoing commitment to bolster Maryborough and boost its economy.

“The joint venture is expected to start construction of the new, high-tech manufacturing plant located in the Moonaboola industrial estate in Maryborough in January 2020 and be completed in 12 months.

“The 6000sqm projectile forging plant, with an additional 1000sqm of office space, will employ up to 100 people when fully operational.”

The plant will produce artillery shell cases and other related products to supply the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and international export markets.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the forecast production at the facility will meet increasing international customer demand looking to invest in the ADF.

“The Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to expanding Australian defence industry.  Our $28.5 million contribution towards this $60 million facility in Maryborough, will put Maryborough on the international defence industry map.

“The forging and manufacturing facility will ensure resources supplied to the ADF are Australian-made and create Australian industry capability for current and future transactions.” Mr McCormack said.
