New funding for Men’s Sheds at Pomona, Kilkivan and Murgon
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien today announced new Coalition Government funding for Men’s Sheds at Pomona, Kilkivan and Murgon to enable them to assist men in their communities.
“Almost $14,000 will be provided to Men’s Sheds that will support the delivery of new projects to benefit their local communities,” Mr O’Brien said.
“I’m pleased to confirm Pomona Men’s Shed has been allocated $4,000 towards the purchase of colorbond sheeting, a concrete floor, access doors, lighting and power installation, and crane hire to move a container, providing safer facilities for the Men’s Shed members.
“Kilkivan Men’s Shed will receive $4,842 for the purchase of an air compressor, compound mitre saw, metal cut off saw, combo kit, welder inverter, orbital and belt sanders, first aid kit, first aid and safety courses,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This funding will be used by members to expand the range of quality products and increase participation in activities that advance the health and well-being of members through health seminars and distribution of health information and resources.”
Mr O’Brien said Murgon’s Men’s Shed will receive $5,000 for an electrical upgrade to the workshop to address health and safety compliance.
“This funding is in addition to my $25,000 election commitment which supported the extension of the shed to enable more activities and projects to be undertaken.
“I congratulate Pomona, Kilkivan and Murgon Men’s Sheds on the success of their applications.
“Men’s Sheds strengthen the community by encouraging participation and supporting volunteers. They contribute to the growth and development of other local organisations too by sharing resources with them. They serve an important health and wellbeing role by reducing social isolation and improving mental health, particularly among retired and older men, providing mentors for those facing uncertainty in life and who are looking to acquire new skills.
“This funding round helps Men’s Sheds to buy tools and equipment, support community projects and training, maintain or develop their buildings, or create local activities to improve men’s health. This grant funding is part of the $5.1 million the Federal Government has provided to the Australian Men’s Shed Association through to 2018-19 to support the national network of Men’s Sheds.
