Federal grant to help tap new tourism markets on Cooloola Coast
“Voluntourism” will be the word on everyone’s lips in Tin Can Bay, with Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announcing a $20,000 grant for Cooloola Coastcare Association to develop a tourism strategy.
Mr O’Brien said funding for the Cooloola Coast Voluntourism and Research Tourism Strategy would be provided through Round 3 of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
The strategy will be used to develop two new tourism markets for the Cooloola Coast to grow tourism numbers during off-peak times.
“The tourism strategy will help tap into new markets for the Cooloola Coast such as ‘voluntourism’, which is a rapidly-growing new trend that the Wide Bay is perfectly positioned to benefit from,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government’s investment in local projects like this will help grow the Wide Bay economy and build a strong future for tourism in Tin Can Bay and the surrounding area.
“By building the tourism industry, this project will create jobs and make the Cooloola Coast an even more vibrant and enjoyable place for residents and visitors, all year around.”
Other projects funded in this stream include Maryborough Showground and Equestrian Park which received $15,000 for a five-year strategic plan, and Noosa Tourism which received two grants worth a total of $30,000 for industry development programs.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to ensuring Australia’s regions remain strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term.
“We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure, as well as great community-building and planning initiatives under the Building Better Regions Fund and other Government priorities such as the Regional Growth Fund and our decentralisation agenda,” Mr McCormack said.
“In this round we are also investing more than $70 million in regional tourism infrastructure, to support those many regional communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy.
“We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds, and today’s announcement continues our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of regional Australia and ensuring our regions continue to thrive.”
