CARERS WEEK 2018
At the start of Carers Week 2018 Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien said it’s important to acknowledge and thank all carers for the work they do looking after others.

“Carers Week 2018, which runs between 14-20 October, provides us all with an opportunity to recognise the work of carers and thank them for the enormous contribution they make in communities throughout Wide Bay,” Mr O’Brien said.

The theme of this year’s Carers Week is “Why We Care” which reminds us of the vital support that carers provide to boost to the health and wellbeing of others, as well as the value of their work in the community.

“Carers dedicate so much of their time to enhance the lives of their family and friends and make things a little easier for those who need some help and support.

“Each and every week Australia’s unpaid carers spend an incredible 36 million hours caring for family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are aged and frail.

“Carers Week pays tribute to the enormous contribution that carers make to lives of people and provides a special opportunity to say thank you to a carer.

“It is also important for carers to be aware of the assistance that is available to support their own health and wellbeing.

“I encourage everyone to recognise and help carers who make a special effort to look after a family member or friend in need,” Mr O’Brien said.

Carers Week encourages people to learn more about carers, who they are, what they do and how they can be supported.

WELCOME TO WIDE BAY

In the spirit of Australia, I acknowledge all citizens who contribute to making our nation the greatest on earth.

I acknowledge our defence force personnel, past, present, and emerging, for their service to our nation, and particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia.

I also acknowledge the Australian taxpayers who, through their hard work, pay for the infrastructure, health, education, and emergency services that keep our proud nation healthy, safe, and prosperous.
