Veteran and Community grant for Tin Can Bay RSL
As part of the Australian Government’s Veteran and Community Grants (V&CG) program, funding of more than $45,000 will be provided to the Tin Can Bay RSL in support to upgrading its facilities including external shade areas for members’ use.

Minister for Veterans’ Affairs Darren Chester and Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien today visited the RSL where they were shown the facilities the RSL offers to the local community.

“The Tin Can Bay RSL has supported the veteran and ex-service community in the area for more than 30 years, and this funding will improve its facilities to ensure members can benefit well into the future,” Mr Chester said.

Mr O’Brien said the grant would greatly assist the provision of a space for members of the ex-service community to meet up and further reduce social isolation.

“With more than 3500 DVA clients in the Wide Bay area, it is important to ensure community groups like the Tin Can Bay RSL are providing support to veterans and their families,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The Tin Can Bay RSL is a local focal point for a range of activities and this grant will enable the RSL to extend its range of programs and services, connecting people and strengthening the community.”

The V&CG program funds initiatives that reduce social isolation, support carers and improve access to community care services. Today’s funding is in addition to the more than $48,000 provided in grants to various projects in the Wide Bay region since 1 July this year.

“We are putting veterans and their families first and provide more than $11.2 billion each year to deliver essential services and programs,” Mr Chester said.

“Our Government is proud to provide grants through programs such as the V&CG to local organisations working to meet the needs of veterans in our local communities.”
