Upgraded Brolga Theatre River Terrace officially opens

The upgraded Brolga Theatre will bring national and international acts to Maryborough, attracting around 25,000 visitors a year.

Minister for Regional Development Minister Nash said the upgrade provided a flexible space for functions and events that connects with the existing river-stage.

“The Brolga Theatre is one of the top attractions on the Fraser Coast. This upgrade will help to attract top-class national and international acts, which will bring more visitors to the region and create more jobs,” Minister Nash said.

“The theatre can now hold larger community and public events all year round, drawing in people from all over the region.

“I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and attractions like the Brolga Theatre are a big part of that.”

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said tourism played a significant part in the region’s economy and the upgraded Brolga Theatre would help attract more businesses and tourism to the area.

“The Fraser Coast is a great place to experience Queensland’s rich history and these updates will complement the regions beautiful heritage architecture,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The upgrades also included the renovation and fit-out of the theatre’s restaurant, further adding to the flexibility of the space.

“As well as providing funds towards this beautiful renovation, the Coalition’s National Stronger Regions Fund has also provided $900,000 from the same round of funding towards stage two of the Fraser Coast Military Trail’s Duncan Chapman memorial.  Both these projects will create new cultural opportunities for job creation in Maryborough – and the whole Fraser Coast stands to benefit.”

Fraser Coast Mayor Chris Loft said the creation of the Brolga Theatre River Terrace would increase the use of the facility and attract visitors to the region.

“The flow-on effects will be massive as more people visit and stay in the region; and we attract functions that showcase the latest information and services to our community,” Cr Loft said.

“It sits well within our policy to boost visitor numbers to Maryborough to 200,000 a year and one million in Hervey Bay.”

The $660,000 Brolga Theatre River Terrace upgrade was jointly funded, with the Coalition Government investing $325,000 through the National Stronger Regions Fund, Fraser Coast Regional Council $325,000 and Brolga Theatre Funds $10,000.
