Stronger Communities grant has Goomeri and District Show Society cooking with gas

Goomeri and District Show Society will be able to turn up the heat for community events, with a $16,362 grant to upgrade the kitchen and bar at Goomeri Showgrounds.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the grant would cover new benchtops, sinks, cupboards, a gas hot water system, a new cook top and oven, and a large new cold room, with funding provided through round three of the Stronger Communities Programme.

“The kitchen and bar are used by a wide range of community organisations in the Goomeri area, so the whole community will benefit throughout the year, not just at show-time,” Mr O’Brien said.

“This funding means the kitchen will be better-equipped and safer for volunteers.”

The funding comes on top of $26,000 in Stronger Communities grants announced last week for Murgon Lions Club’s new food van, a new computer server for Graham House and weather-proofing the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum.

Funding was also provided for Little Haven Palliative Care at Gympie, Cooloola Coast Medical Transport, and Kilkivan Men’s Shed, with further beneficiaries will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The Stronger Communities Programme is about supporting our Wide Bay communities and recognising the vital work that local organisations carry out,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I am pleased to see this funding go to such a  diverse range of valuable community organisations.”

The Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme is designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000. Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year.
