Stronger Communities funding to help save lives

Peregian Beach will be safer with a $11,351 Stronger Communities Programme grant to help life savers race to the rescue of people in danger.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien was pleased to announce the funding, which will be used towards the purchase of a new All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) by Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club to improve the capacity of volunteers to perform patrols, support police search and rescue operations, and respond faster in emergencies at Peregian Beach.

“The new ATV will mean surf life savers can travel further and faster, which will help save lives on some of Wide Bay’s busiest beaches,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I am pleased the Liberal Nationals Government has delivered this funding to help Peregian Beach’s dedicated volunteer life savers continue their essential work, keeping our community safe.”

The Federal Government’s Stronger Communities Programme is designed to improve the resilience of communities by providing capital grants for small projects of between $5000 and $20,000. Up to $150,000 is available in each electorate per year.

The grants are available to not-for-profit organisations and local councils. Other successful organisations in this funding round include Maryborough Military Aviation Complex, Hope Reins in Gympie, Cooloola Coast Medical Transport, and Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub-Branch.
