Older Persons Advocacy Network: A strong voice for Wide Bay Seniors in need
Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien says a new, free support network is now available to stand up for the rights of older people in need in Wide Bay.
“I value and respect our senior residents and take their needs and concerns seriously. I also know how vulnerable they can be, which is why I welcome the new Older Persons Advocacy Network,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This network will give older Australians a strong voice, ensuring their rights are respected and that they can make informed decisions about their future.”
“The Coalition Government understands that every now and then, older people, their families and carers need help to navigate their legal and aged care rights, and this network will make that easier.”
Mr O’Brien said the new service is easily accessed, through a website and a freecall number.
“Wide Bay residents are automatically connected with our local Queensland advocacy organisation, and trained advocates can then assess their needs, provide personalised service and meet with them if necessary,” Mr O’Brien said.
OPAN help is available to all Wide Bay residents aged 55 and over, including those who may be living with a disability or dementia, or from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The Coalition Government has provided $25.7 million over the next three years for OPAN to deliver the new National Aged Care Advocacy Program.
“This service is about respect for local seniors’ rights and individual needs and expectations,” Mr O’Brien said.
