NBN roll-out now complete in Glenwood
- Next-generation NBN fixed wireless tower goes live in Glenwood West
- 380 premises can now connect to high speed broadband
- Fixed wireless has highest customer satisfaction rating on the NBN
Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien and Minister for Regional Communications Fiona Nash have welcomed the activation of a fixed wireless tower in Glenwood West which will connect to 380 homes and businesses to fast, affordable broadband.
Mr O’Brien said the new site in Glenwood West completed the NBN roll-out for the Glenwood area, providing fast and affordable broadband.
“Residents and businesses in the Glenwood area can talk to retail service providers about the services available and how to sign up,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Fixed wireless is a great way to connect, and has one of the highest satisfaction ratings of NBN technology as it offers speeds of up to 50 megabits a second download and 20 megabits a second upload.
“This technology will help families get connected, improving access to entertainment, education and even healthcare, while local businesses also stand to benefit.”
Minister Nash said the regional roll out of the NBN was already more than two-thirds finished, with the fixed wireless network expected to be largely complete by the end of 2018.
“Almost 200,000 homes and businesses in regional and rural Australia are already connected to the popular fixed wireless network.
“Customers love fixed wireless and it’s easy to see why. Families, business owners and schools can now access new business, education and entertainment opportunities. I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and fast broadband is an important part of that.”
Fixed wireless delivers fast broadband through 1700 fixed wireless towers around the nation.
