LNP GOVERNMENT TO FUND UPGRADE OF FEMALE FACILITIES AT CUTTERS RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB
An elected LNP Government will upgrade facilities at the Pomona Cooran Amateur Rugby League Football Club (the Cutters).
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has secured a $57,000 funding commitment for female friendly amenities, to ensure the club can accommodate the growing number of women and girls who want to get involved in playing rugby league, and to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where female athletes can thrive.
“The Cutters were formed in 1989, and their facilities were built to accommodate men and boys,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Historically, they fielded a single senior men’s team, but this has changed in the last few years and the Cutters have expanded to include mixed junior teams and all female junior and senior teams.
“Providing suitable amenities is about much more than functionality — it is about sending a powerful positive message to women and girls in our community, and this helps to break down barriers to female participation in traditionally male sports.
“Improved facilities will serve as a foundation for a more inclusive, diverse and vibrant club, benefiting players, their families, and the wider community for years to come.
“This funding commitment builds on the $9,200 grant the club has been approved for from the Stronger Communities Program to create more inclusive amenities that support the future growth and development of rugby league in the local community.”
Cutters President Sharon Collins said upgrading the facilities means the club is not only addressing an immediate need but also setting the stage for future growth in female participation.
“These improvements will make our club more appealing and accessible to women and girls, ensuring that they have the resources they need to succeed and enjoy their sporting journey,” Ms Collins said.
The commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to invest in grassroots sporting and recreational facilities, strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
