COMMITMENT TO BAT FOR PICKLEBALL IN MARYBOROUGH

April 17, 2025

Pickleball is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide, and an elected Liberal and National Government will provide funding to support five new full size all-weather pickleball courts in Maryborough to cater for the growing number of people wanting to participate.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said that the $30,000 commitment would help create pickleball courts in Maryborough.

“Maryborough residents of ages want to get involved with pickleball, but the lack of playing courts is limiting their participation. The Maryborough and District Hockey Association are making space available for five courts to be marked out in their indoor stadium,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I’ve had very positive feedback from the Maryborough community about the need for dedicated pickleball courts and that’s why I’m making the commitment to create a space where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy playing pickleball and reap the social and physical benefits of being active in their community.

“With around fifty regular players, Maryborough has rapidly gained an enthusiastic pickleball following but we don’t have full size courts to play on. School students are asking where they can play. People in the street who see us wearing pickleball shirts enquire about where they can play,” Maryborough resident Anne Proctor said.

“This commitment is going to give us the playing courts we need to start a formal pickleball club, and a place where people of all ages can come and enjoy the fun nature and accessibility of the sport.”

The commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to invest in grass roots sporting and recreational facilities, strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
