Llew O’Brien hits a $140,000 home run for Maryborough softball
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has hit a home run for Maryborough Softball Association with a $140,000 grant for new lighting
“The Maryborough Softball Association is one of the oldest clubs in Queensland and has a proud history with a number of players going on to represent Queensland and Australia,” Mr O’Brien said.
“This funding for new lights will allow them to extend their practice and match times into cooler time slots during the hot summer months, offering more opportunities for hosting local and intrastate titles.
“By increasing the availability and accessibility of the pitch, Maryborough Softball Association will continue to grow, attracting more visiting softball teams and benefiting local tourism and accommodation businesses as well as the local sporting community.”
Mr O’Brien congratulated the volunteers, officials and players of Maryborough Softball Association for their successful grant.
The funding will be delivered by the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.
“The Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to supporting local communities to prosper and grow, and local infrastructure projects like this are critical if we want to boost economic growth and improve local amenities and facilities,” Mr O’Brien said.
In the 2018-19 Budget, the Liberal and Nationals Government committed to funding more than 100 new regional programs that create jobs, support economic growth and improve access to essential health, education and communications services.
