Funding opportunity for Indigenous languages and arts

February 25, 2020

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is encouraging eligible community organisations to apply for funding from the Liberal and Nationals Government 2020-21 Indigenous Languages and Arts program.

The program supports projects which preserve, maintain and express culture through Indigenous languages and arts,” Mr O’Brien said.

Projects funded under the Indigenous Languages and Arts program share uniquely Australian stories and increase recognition of Indigenous languages and arts in the wider Australian community.

“The Morrison Government is committed to supporting Indigenous languages and arts organisations to ensure that heritage, culture and knowledge can be preserved and passed on to future generations.

“Preserving languages and supporting traditional and contemporary Indigenous art forms is important for Australia, and it’s also important to help promote the work of our talented Indigenous artists and performers internationally.”

The funding is available for a range of projects that seek to celebrate and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through community-led Indigenous languages and arts activities.

The Australian Government invests around $20 million through the Indigenous Languages and Arts program annually to promote participation in, and maintenance of, Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures through languages and arts.

Applications close on 6 April 2020 at 11.59 pm (AEDT).

WELCOME TO WIDE BAY

In the spirit of Australia, I acknowledge all citizens who contribute to making our nation the greatest on earth.

I acknowledge our defence force personnel, past, present, and emerging, for their service to our nation, and particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia.

I also acknowledge the Australian taxpayers who, through their hard work, pay for the infrastructure, health, education, and emergency services that keep our proud nation healthy, safe, and prosperous.
