Funding Builds Better Regions in Noosa
Noosa is set to benefit from Stage 3 of the Rufous Street Masterplan Digital Hub at Peregian Beach, with the Coalition Government investing $2,550,179 in Noosa Council’s $5,100,358 project, through the Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects stream.
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien said the project was a significant investment in building a stronger economy and community.
“The Digital Hub is a key component of the Council’s Rufous Street Masterplan, and will be a centralised location for entrepreneurial activity, innovation and education,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The community will benefit from the facilities at the Hub which will offer co-working spaces, offices, training and presentation rooms, and public amenities to attract start-ups and creative businesses to the Noosa Shire, as well as servicing existing digital and IT businesses.
“The Noosa community can look forward to the many benefits this investment will deliver, helping Noosa to diversify its economy, creating new jobs and ensuring it continues to thrive and prosper into the future, ” Mr O’Brien said.
“In April I was pleased to bring the Deputy Prime Minister, Michael McCormack to Peregian Beach where he met with Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington and senior officers involved with the Digital Hub project. The Council put forward a good case and quality application, Michael and I listened, and I’m pleased to be here today to announce Coalition Government funding for this great project.”
Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government John McVeigh said Coalition Government funded Building Better Regions projects will deliver significant economic and social benefits to communities across Australia.
“Under round two of the Building Better Regions Fund – Infrastructure Projects stream, the Coalition Government is investing well over $200 million in 136 projects with a total leveraged project value of $459 million,” Dr McVeigh said.
“This means, in each successful community much anticipated local projects are receiving the funds needed to take a big idea and make it a reality.
“The Coalition has a plan for regional Australia and we are focused on getting it done. It’s a plan to create more jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities”.
“A further $200 million was announced in the 2018-19 Budget for a third round of the Building Better Regions Fund – a clear indication of the Coalition Government’s commitment to create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities into the future.”
The second round of the Building Better Regions Fund, which includes the Community Investments stream and the Infrastructure Projects stream, is expected to create some 10,000 jobs from over 240 projects.
