Delivering Safer Communities in Wide Bay
Federal Member for Wide Bay, Llew O’Brien MP announced today that the Coalition Government will provide $155,920 for CCTV Security Technologies for the Hastings Street precinct in Noosa.
Llew O’Brien congratulated Noosa Council on the successful outcome of their application under Round 2 of the Coalition’s $40 million Safer Communities Fund.
“Safe communities are strong and prosperous, and the best way to make communities safer and tackle crime and anti-social behaviour is to prevent it from happening,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The funding will replace the ageing and outdated CCTV equipment with new cameras and number plate recognition technology along Hastings Street and the bus terminal area.
“Noosa is a tourist destination of national and international standing and visitor numbers to this area have increased by 29% over the past 3 years, proving its track record of success. Providing an even safer, reassuring environment will further enrich visitors’ experiences.
“This delivers on the Coalition’s ongoing commitment to keep communities safe and secure,” Mr O’Brien said.
Assistant Minister for Home Affairs, Alex Hawke, said the Coalition’s community safety record was solid.
“The Coalition has now committed more than $100 million purely to assist local communities in delivering strategies to address crime and anti-social behaviour,” Mr Hawke said.
