Community groups in Wide Bay encouraged to get their green thumbs ready

Wide Bay community, land care, environment and other natural resource management groups can now apply for funding to help restore Wide Bay’s unique natural environment, under the Coalition Government’s $5 million Environment Small Grants opportunity.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the Government is providing the grants under Phase 2 of its National Landcare Program, to help communities deliver natural resource management activities that improve the quality of their local environment.

Local groups and individuals in Wide Bay can now apply for grants to deliver activities such as invasive pest and weed management, revegetation, erosion control, community engagement, and Indigenous land management planning.

“From lungfish and bum-breathing turtles to Fraser Island and our beautiful national parks, Wide Bay is home to some of the country’s most incredible flora and fauna so it is important we protect and preserve them for future generations,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I strongly encourage all interested groups and organisations to put their hands up for one of these grants to help keep Wide Bay beautiful.”

Applicants have until 19 March 2018 to apply for funding of between $5,000 and $50,000 for each project. The small grants will be allocated through a one-off grant in the 2017-18 financial year.
