Cenotaph upgrade to salute their service

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien today announced Rainbow Beach RSL Sub-branch would receive Government funding to upgrade the concrete and tile area at the Rainbow Beach Cenotaph.

Mr O’Brien said the RSL Sub-branch had received $3971 as part of the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service grants program to support their project that honoured Australia’s military history.

“This grant will ensure the Cenotaph remains a safe and attractive place for members of the Rainbow Beach community to pay their respects and honour the service and sacrifice of the men and women who defend our values and freedoms,” Mr O’Brien said.

“As proud Australians, we must keep alive the Anzac spirit and teach future generations about our military history so that they understand the value of our freedom, and the price we have paid to maintain it.”

Mr O’Brien encouraged any local community organisations interested in applying for funding under the Saluting Their Service grants program to contact the Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ Commemorative Grants team on 1800 026 185 or email [email protected]

The Saluting Their Service Community Commemorative Grants program provides up to $4,000 for an individual project. It is a rolling grants program, so applications are accepted at any time.
