CCTV to keep volunteers and shoppers safe at Vinnies Gympie

A much loved Gympie charity shop will be protected with a new CCTV system and duress alarm, thanks to a Safer Communities grant announced by Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien.

“These new premises will mean more members, which means stronger support for the Club’s essential lifesaving services, ensuring public safety, boosting tourism and providing a valued community hub,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Club will be able to host conferences, weddings and other functions,  which will increase income and create jobs for the club as well as local accommodation providers, retail outlets and restaurants.
“A large-capacity multi-purpose function meeting room will provide a new facility at no cost for local charities, not-for-profit organisations, and other community groups, so the upgrade will benefit the whole community.
Mr O’Brien said the project was funded under Round 3 of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government’s highly successful Building Better Regions Fund.
“It is projects such as the Sunshine Beach Surf Lifesaving Club upgrade that make our regional communities even better places to live, work and raise a family and I’m excited to see the positive difference this funding will make to the Noosa community.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to ensuring Australia’s regions remain strong, resilient and prosperous in the long term.
“We are supporting our regions through investing in important local infrastructure, as well as great community-building and planning initiatives under the Building Better Regions Fund and other Government priorities such as the Regional Growth Fund and our decentralisation agenda,” Mr McCormack said.
“In this round we are also investing more than $70 million in regional tourism infrastructure, to support those many regional communities that rely on tourism to bolster their economy.
“We have seen fantastic outcomes from the first two rounds, and today’s announcement continues our commitment to unlocking the economic potential of regional Australia and ensuring our regions continue to thrive.”
