Additional disaster assistance for Fraser Coast

The Fraser Coast  will receive additional disaster assistance funding to help the council repair damage from severe weather that swept through the region in October, Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said today.

“The Coalition Government is committed to ensuring quick recovery from natural disasters such as the severe storms that affected Maryborough and the surrounding areas last month,” Mr O’Brien said.

Minister for Justice Michael Keenan today announced the additional assistance, which is being provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA).

“Through the NDRRA, the Commonwealth has extended its assistance to provide funding to help the Queensland Government and local councils with the restoration of essential public assets in the local government areas of Bundaberg and Fraser Coast,” Mr Keenan said.

“This additional funding demonstrates the Australian Government’s ongoing commitment to providing relief and recovery assistance following natural disasters.”

Information on disaster assistance available for this natural disaster can be found on the Australian Government’s Disaster Assist website at https://www.disasterassist.gov.au/ and the Queensland Government’s Disaster management website at http://www.disaster.qld.gov.au/.
