WIDE BAY TO RECEIVE $20.574 MILLION UNDER THE COALITION’S LOCAL ROADS AND COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM
Local councils across Wide Bay will have the money and the autonomy to deliver more community infrastructure and better roads, with a $20.574 million allocation in partnership funding from an LNP Government.
The LNP is committed to getting Australia back on track and will restore genuine support for local government by revamping the successful Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (LRCI) that was cut by the Albanese Government.
“Council relied on the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to repair our local roads and deliver new and improved community infrastructure,” Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said.
“When the Labor Government stripped this vital support from local government they stripped away vital funding for road maintenance, leaving Councils without the resources they need to fix potholes and repair road damage.”
“The Labor Government also stripped local government of the capacity to deliver infrastructure improvements and community projects that create jobs and build strong resilient communities.”
In Wide Bay, the LRCI Program has historically funded a range of road and infrastructure projects including:
- Upgrading Langura Street in Noosa
- Upgrading the Brolga Theatre Car Park in Maryborough
- Widening Amamoor, Rocks, and Eel Creek Roads in Gympie
- Constructing bike and walking paths on Excelsior Road and Mellor Streets in Gympie
- Installing CCTV cameras in Gympie
- Resealing Silverleaf and Verdehlo Roads in the South Burnett
The Liberal National Coalition will reinstate the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to address the backlog of road maintenance and community infrastructure projects since Labor cut the program.
“An LNP Government will partner with local government to deliver the funding needed to achieve the best outcomes for Wide Bay,” Mr O’Brien said.
