GLENWOOD STATE SCHOOL RECEIVES AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT FUNDING TO HONOUR VETERANS
Glenwood State School has received Australian Government funding to create a dedicated memorial place for students, teachers, and the school community to commemorate the service and sacrifice of Australia’s defence force personnel.
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced that Glenwood State School will receive $9,800 in funding from the Department of Veteran Affairs Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants Program.
“The Saluting Their Service Program commemorates the service and sacrifice of Australia’s defence force personnel who have served and defended our nation in wars, conflicts, and peace operations,” Mr O‘Brien said.
“The school will use the Saluting Their Service grant to install four flagpoles and build a memorial wall and garden with signage in the school grounds.”
“The memorial will be located near the school’s front gates and will help to build awareness and understanding for students, staff, and visitors of the hardships and sacrifices our service men and women have endured in the defence of our national freedom,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It is heartening to see the work that our schools do to acknowledge and commemorate the service of the brave men and women who have served this nation.”
“Wide Bay is home to a significant veteran population and the memorial at Glenwood State School will help to tell the story of their service and sacrifice,” Mr O’Brien said.
The memorial will provide a permanent place for the Glenwood School community to commemorate Anzac Day and Remembrance Day and help further the understanding of the important role of Australian service personnel from the Boer War onwards.
Glenwood School expects the construction of the memorial to be completed by June this year.
