Wide Bay schools, community and ex-service organisations will receive resources to help commemorate and honour the service of those who served in the Second World War, 75 years on from the war’s end.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the range of resources would be available from this week, and encouraged people to become actively involved in the commemorations.

“15 August is also known as Victory in the Pacific Day, and it’s a particularly significant date this year as we commemorate 75 years since the Second World War ended,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The educational package contains a wide range of resources to help schools and organisations commemorate the Second World War and remember the profound impact it had on Australia.”

The mail-out contains resources such as posters, Wartime Snapshot No.28, educational resources to support teachers such as Shifting Tides: Australia and the Pacific in the Second World War, History in Focus information cards and the video series Stories of Service: The Second World War.

Mr O’Brien encouraged organisations which received the packs to display the resources prominently so as many people as possible could commemorate the service and sacrifice of Second World War veterans, including around 12,000 veterans still alive today.
“Almost one million Australians served in the Second World War in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, in south-east Asia and the Pacific, as well as on the home front,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The mail-out pack includes engaging resources to teach younger generations and help the broader community to commemorate this important historical event.”
