VOLUNTEERS IN GYMPIE AND THE MARY VALLEY GET FUNDING BOOST

October 1, 2024

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien visited community groups in Gympie and the Mary Valley today to congratulate them on obtaining an Australian Government Volunteer Grant.

Mr O’Brien said that Gympie Medical Transport, the Friends of Amamoor, and the Kandanga Cemetery Association had all received funding to support the important work their volunteers undertake in the community.

“Gympie Medical Transport do fantastic work, driving people to and from their medical appointments at specialist centres and hospitals between Brisbane and Hervey Bay,” Mr O’Brien said.

Their $4,900 grant will help reimburse the fuel expenses of the volunteers at Gympie Medical Transport who go above and beyond, providing a very important service for the residents of Gympie and surrounding areas.  ”

“The Friends of Amamoor received $2,750 to purchase computer and kitchen equipment to support their very successful monthly Cheers and Beers community event,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Run entirely by volunteers, Cheers and Beers is a great family friendly event that brings the community together on the Amamoor Village Green for fun, food, friendship and music.”

“The Kandanga Cemetery Association’s grant of $2,430 will purchase computer equipment and a portable gazebo to support the work done by their volunteers maintaining and repairing the historic Kandanga cemetery,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The Cemetery Association’s records chronicle the rich heritage and pioneering families of the Kandanga region, and the work their volunteers do is vital in preserving our regional history.”

“Volunteers make a significant social and economic contribution to Wide Bay, sharing their time, skills, and expertise to improve the lives of others in our communities,” Mr O’Brien said.

“It is important to remember that this is taxpayers money, and I’m the lucky one who gets to give it away to support grass roots volunteer groups in the Wide Bay Community.”

“Another round of the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants will open in November 2024. Please contact my office on 4121 2936 if you would like to be notified when this Volunteer Grants round opens.”

WELCOME TO WIDE BAY

In the spirit of Australia, I acknowledge all citizens who contribute to making our nation the greatest on earth.

I acknowledge our defence force personnel, past, present, and emerging, for their service to our nation, and particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia.

I also acknowledge the Australian taxpayers who, through their hard work, pay for the infrastructure, health, education, and emergency services that keep our proud nation healthy, safe, and prosperous.
