NOOSA DOLPHINS RUGBY UNION CLUB UPGRADE COMMITMENT

April 4, 2025

A future LNP Government will commit funding to upgrade the Noosa Dolphins Rugby Union clubhouse to meet their growing numbers and attract visiting clubs, schools, and international teams to Noosa.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has secured a $4 million commitment from an elected LNP Government to redevelop the clubhouse to support women and girls teams, and to improve accessibility for the other clubs and community groups to use the venue.

“Noosa Dolphins is set in a spectacular location and has huge potential to become one of Noosa’s premier sporting facilities and an even better asset for the Noosa community,” Mr O’Brien said.

“I’ve been working together with Noosa Dolphins on their plans for a number of years and it’s exciting for them, and the whole of Noosa, to see their concepts for the new clubhouse progress and the benefits it will bring to the region.

“The Noosa Dolphins has served a valuable role in the community for nearly 40 years, bringing people together through sport, and supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of people in Noosa.

“In addition to being used for training and matches, other community groups use the club grounds and amenities, including local schools, sporting fixtures, community events and fundraising activities, training, and festivals.

“The project will create a vibrant community asset for the Dolphins players and members, as well as a place where people of all ages and abilities can enjoy sporting and recreational activities.”

The proposed works include:

  • New Clubhouse with viewing deck over the front field.
  • New Kitchen and bar facility.
  • New meeting and conference room facilities.
  • 4 New changerooms to Rugby Australia standard.
  • New disabled toilet facilities.
  • New Medical room.
  • Sealed carparking area.
  • Drainage upgrades
  • Improved access.

“In line with our 10-year plan, we have identified significant infrastructure upgrades that are required to meet the demands of providing rugby union for our members, and to ensure the facilities meet current standards in terms of accessibility, growing the game, and attracting visiting clubs and schools to our facilities,” Dolphins President Chris Burton said.

“Our intent is to develop the facility in a way that services the rugby community and also create a location that can be used for other community-based activities and events, ensuring year-round access and supporting the club’s longevity and service to the community.”

Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud said Llew O’Brien has been a champion of the Noosa Dolphins and their plans for the Club’s redevelopment.

“Llew’s enthusiasm for the Dolphins and what this project means for rugby and Noosa has brought about this commitment, which will serve the Dolphins and the Noosa community for generations to come.

“The 2027 and 2029 Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cups will be held in Australia, and the project will help the club to attract international teams to Noosa for training camps, and for a base for their World Cup campaigns,” Mr Littleproud said.

This commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
