LNP FUNDING COMMITMENT FOR GYMPIE PISTOL CLUB

April 23, 2025

An elected LNP Government will support sporting shooters in Gympie by delivering an upgrade to the Gympie Pistol Club.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has secured a $160,000 commitment to ensure the Gympie community has a safe and appropriate facility where people can practice their sport and enjoy social shooting activities.

“Shooting is one of the few sports that people of all ages and abilities can join in,” Mr O’Brien said.

“There has been a remarkable surge in interest in shooting sports across Australia, with a huge increase in the number of women and families getting involved.

The club house is due for a major renovation, and I’ve been working with the members on a funding plan to deliver new amenities, replace the roof, and create new secure storage spaces to accommodate the growing number of people who want to be involved.

“It’s great to see the Gympie Pistol Club enjoying growth, with over 1,000 people using the club’s facilities every year. It’s a family friendly club where participants can learn firearm skills, improved focus and concentration, and make friends in a secure and welcoming environment.”

Gympie Pistol Club President Peter Todd said a new roof and toilet block will make a big difference to the club and the members and guests who train and compete at the facility.

“We are thankful to Llew for the ongoing support and assistance he has given the Pistol Club over many years,” Mr Todd said.

The funding commitment builds upon Mr O’Brien’s previous support for the club, which includes $45,000 for clubhouse renovations, a shade structure, and works on the firing line, plus $3,000 for a ride-on mower.

The commitment is part of the LNP’s plan to invest in grass roots sporting and recreational facilities, strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
