Funding for Maryborough Speedway to accelerate growth
Competitors and spectators at Maryborough Speedway will be able to enjoy motorsports from a safe, shaded location with Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Llew O’Brien announcing a $15,000 grant for the Maryborough Sporting Cars Club.
“With growing interest in motorsports, the Maryborough Sporting Cars Club has seen significant growth particularly in junior competitors, and this funding will help provide a more sun-safe environment for these young sportspeople, competitors and community members,” Mr O’Brien said.
The grant, provided through Round 6 of the Stronger Communities Programme will enable the Club to build three permanent shade structures totalling 142 square meters over the Speedway’s junior competitor area.
“This investment will help ensure sporting car enthusiasts and the broader community can make full use of the facility for driver training, races and events,” Mr O’Brien said.
The Stronger Communities Programme Round 6 provided up to $150,000 for each of the 151 federal electorates in Australia, with grants of between $2,500 and $20,000 available for eligible organisations including incorporated not-for-profit community service and sporting groups and councils.

Previous rounds of the SCP delivered funding to a range of organisations in Wide Bay, assisting with:
- An aerator for the fish ponds at Murgon, through the Rotary Club of Murgon
- First aid equipment and tools for Murgon Men’s Shed
- A community garden for Graham House Community Centre
- Electrical works for the Queensland Dairy and Heritage Museum
- Upgraded kitchen and hot water supply for Goomeri Show Society
- Three commemorative mosaics at Cooroy-Pomoma RSL
- A new kitchen and change rooms for Cooroy Gymnastics
- A jet-ski for Noosa Boardriders
- Air conditioning for the activity Shed at Noosa’s Sunshine Butterflies disability service
- New audio visual technology for Gympie Chamber of Commerce
- Funding towards new vehicles for Cooloola Coast Medical Transport service
- Improved car parking and accessibility for South Burnett First Aid Volunteers at the Murgon Training Centre
- Two new portable salvage-fire fighting pumps for Noosa Coast Guard’s rescue boats.
- A new Digger’s Memorial for Tewantin-Noosa RSL Sub-Branch
- Upgraded arena flooring for Maryborough Riding for the Disabled
- A new hay shed for Gympie’s Hope Reins
- Displays at Maryborough Military Aviation Museum Complex
- A new all-terrain vehicle for Noosa Heads Surf Life Saving Club
- A solar power system at Vinnies Noosaville.
- A new 10-pallet truck for Maryborough’s Foodbasket.
- Security cameras for Tin Can Bay Fishing Club.
