Maryborough volunteers will receive a boost with two local organisations sharing $8,600 from the Australian Government’s Volunteer Grants Program, Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced today.

Volunteer Grants are between $1,000 and $5,000, and enable organisations in Wide Bay to better support their volunteers to purchase small equipment, pay fuel, transport and training costs, as part of the $9 million national Volunteers Grants Program.

“Maryborough simply would not be the same without the energy, expertise and time its volunteers generously give, supporting the community through difficult times like the drought and floods, and helping to create a brighter future for the city,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The Maryborough Mural Project committee has shown immense vision and pride in Maryborough, helping to create incredible landmarks that beautify the city and attract tourists for many years to come, and I am delighted to be able to support these works with a $4,310 grant to assist its volunteers with new computer equipment, training and fuel reimbursements costs,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre volunteers have provided ongoing support for the entire community, and I am pleased to be able to give back to them with a $4,300 grant for café equipment which will allow them to increase their own skill sets and boost employment opportunities.

“As this week marks National Volunteers Week, I am glad to help our volunteers with this funding from the Liberal and Nationals Government so they can continue their work and build a stronger, more vibrant Maryborough.”
“This funding will go a long way to ensuring volunteers to continue their important work in the community. Their contribution is vital to helping families, provide employment pathways for young people and strengthen community resilience.

“I thank all volunteers everywhere for the work they do and congratulate these organisations for the difference they continue to make to Maryborough.”

National Volunteer Week runs from 18-24 May and is run by Volunteering Australia. You can get involved in the online activities by visiting the Volunteering Australia www.volunteeringaustralia.org/update-on-national-volunteer-week-2020/#/.

WELCOME TO WIDE BAY

In the spirit of Australia, I acknowledge all citizens who contribute to making our nation the greatest on earth.

I acknowledge our defence force personnel, past, present, and emerging, for their service to our nation, and particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia.

I also acknowledge the Australian taxpayers who, through their hard work, pay for the infrastructure, health, education, and emergency services that keep our proud nation healthy, safe, and prosperous.
