FEMALE AMENITIES FOR NOOSA TIGERS AFL CLUB COMMITMENT

April 26, 2025

An elected LNP Government will provide additional support for women and girls to participate in Australian Rules Football in Wide Bay by funding an upgrade to the change rooms and facilities at the Noosa Tigers AFL Club.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has secured a $1 million commitment to build female friendly amenities at the Noosa Tigers clubhouse in Noosaville to accommodate the growth of women and girls who want to get involved in playing AFL.

“The Noosa Tigers have around 1250 members including 130 female players of all ages. But given the constraints on the Club, everyone shares the same amenities and change rooms,” Mr O’Brien said.

“To ensure female AFL players can be properly accommodated with amenities and change rooms of their own at Rococo Oval, the home of the Noosa Tigers, I’m working with the Club on funding for female-friendly amenities and change rooms that comply with AFL minimum standards.”

Bruce Davidson from the Noosa Tigers said that “having dedicated amenities for female players is a key area of focus required to meet AFL and AFLQ minimum standards.”

“The project will secure the club’s ongoing involvement in state level male and female football competitions and help us retain female players. It will also help us attract new junior and senior players, leading to increased participation and club membership.”

“The number of girls and women getting involved in AFL is skyrocketing and we need to make sure our grass roots sporting cubs have the right facilities to attract and keep female players,” Mr O’Brien said.

“That’s why I’m working with the Noosa AFL Tigers to deliver $1 million to build female-friendly amenities and change rooms that will support increased female participation and meet the future needs of this fast growing sport.”

The commitment is part of the Coalition’s plan to invest in grass roots sporting and recreational facilities, strengthen local communities and get Australia back on track. To read more about our plan, visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
