Double the car parks, double the fun at Brolga Theatre

October 7, 2021

Maryborough’s Brolga Theatre is now more accessible during popular events, with Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Llew O’Brien officially opening its $780,000 car park upgrade.

“This important upgrade adds 105 new spaces to the Brolga’s car park, improving access to the Brolga Theatre for local families and visitors, and it has also supported seven jobs with local company SGQ throughout the construction stage,” Mr O’Brien said.

“By almost doubling the car park’s capacity, this investment ensures that the Brolga Theatre will continue to meet the needs of a growing region and remains an important tourism drawcard for our region as a first-class theatre and conference venue.

“This $780,000 investment through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program goes to the heart of the Coalition Government’s commitment to investing in important infrastructure projects, creating a stronger community, supporting local jobs, and building our economy.”

The project is part of $9,815,996 in funding for Fraser Coast Regional Council under the first three phases of the $2.5 billion Local Road and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, to help Fraser Coast communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Paul Truscott said the new upgrade would ensure that the Brolga remains the premier entertainment venue in the region well into the future.

“The Brolga is a world-class facility that hosts fantastic national and international performers and events, drawing huge crowds that have previously had to park on the grass as all the designated car parks filled up quickly,” Cr Truscott said.

“The addition of these extra 105 car parks will ensure everyone will be able to get a space and will make getting in and out of the venue safer and easier for all people attending the venue, whether they are locals, visitors or staff.”
