Wide Bay organisations and individuals with ideas for exciting National Science Week events for next year are being encouraged to apply for a grant to make their idea a reality.

Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Llew O’Brien said preparations for next year’s annual festival of science are now underway, with grants of up to $20,000 available for projects to inspire Australia’s next generation of “big picture” thinkers.

“National Science Week promotes the idea of making science fun and accessible to everyone, and I encourage qualified local people with good ideas put them forward with an application for these grants,” Mr O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien said the Liberal and Nationals Government recognises science and technology are key drivers of the Australian economy, helping to generate more local jobs and higher living standards.

“Wide Bay is home to some really innovative science and technology developers, including the incredible work being done at Peregian Beach Digital Hub to prevent and detect bushfires, so I am excited to see what new ideas are put forward by our communities,” he said.

22 August 2021 and is Australia’s largest festival with over a million people participating in thousands of events each year.
