AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL FLAG DAY 2025

1 September, 2025

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is encouraging Australians to fly the Australian Flag with pride on Australian National Flag Day, Wednesday 3 September 2025.

“National Flag Day celebrates the first time the Australian Flag was flown over the dome of the Exhibition Building in Melbourne in 1901,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Our Australian Flag that we see in schools, government buildings, institutions, private residences, and on top of the Australian Parliament, is a symbol of the decision that was taken by six independent colonies and proclaimed in 1901, to unite under a Commonwealth Federation.

“National Flag Day provides us with a great opportunity to reflect upon Australia’s achievements as a nation since that year of Federation.

“The Australian Flag is our nation’s foremost symbol.  Our Australian Flag is symbol of our nation’s freedom and courage, uniting all Australians in pride for our country and fellow countrymen and women.

“I encourage all Australians to celebrate the 124th anniversary of the Australian National Flag, and to reflect with gratitude on all those who have made sacrifices to uphold our Aussie values.”

WELCOME TO WIDE BAY

In the spirit of Australia, I acknowledge all citizens who contribute to making our nation the greatest on earth.

I acknowledge our defence force personnel, past, present, and emerging, for their service to our nation, and particularly those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the defence of Australia.

I also acknowledge the Australian taxpayers who, through their hard work, pay for the infrastructure, health, education, and emergency services that keep our proud nation healthy, safe, and prosperous.
