AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL FLAG DAY 2024
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is encouraging all Australians to fly the Australian Flag high with pride on Australian National Flag Day on Tuesday 3 September 2024.
“Our National Flag Day celebrates the first time the Australian Flag was flown over the dome of the exhibition building in Melbourne in 1901,” Mr O’Brien said.
“Our Australian Flag was the winning entry in a competition to design a national flag for Australia, as a symbol of the decision that was taken by six independent colonies and proclaimed in 1901, to unite under a Commonwealth Federation.
“National Flag Day provides us with a great opportunity to reflect upon the many achievements of our nation since that year of Federation,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The Australian Flag is a symbol of our nation’s freedom and courage, uniting all Australians in pride for our country and fellow countrymen and women.”
“I encourage all Australians to celebrate the 123rd anniversary of the Australian National Flag, and to reflect with gratitude on all those who have made sacrifices to uphold our Aussie values.”
Merchant Navy Day is also commemorated on 3 September and is the only day the Australian Red Ensign may be flown on land.
