BRUCE HIGHWAY NIGHT WORKS SCHEDULED

June 25, 2024

Night works will be undertaken on the Bruce Highway on Sunday 30 June 2024, as construction continues to progress the completion of the $1 billion Gympie Bypass, Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien has advised today.

“From 6pm to 6am on Sunday 30 June, southbound motorists will be detoured onto the Old Bruce Highway between the Woondum and Traveston interchanges to allow for line marking and signage installation to take place,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Intermittent lane closures will also be in place for northbound highway traffic, and motorists are advised to drive to the changed conditions, follow the directional signage, and allow extra travel time.”

Section D, the four lane 26 Kilometre realignment of the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Curra is set to open later this year.

“While these works may cause temporary inconvenience for motorists and nearby residents, once the bypass is completed the realignment of the Bruce Highway will reduce travel times, improve safety, and increase freight efficiency,” Mr O’Brien said.

“In 2018 the former Coalition Government allocated the $800 million for the Gympie bypass, because this section of the Bruce Highway is rated as one of the deadliest along our national highway.”

More than 11,000 vehicles travel on this part of the Bruce Highway every day, and the Gympie bypass will eliminate eight sets of traffic lights and deliver four lanes along this new corridor to support the safe and efficient movement of cars and trucks, even during flood events.
