NOOSA HEADS’ LANGURA STREET GIVEN FACE-LIFT
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Barnaby Joyce has joined Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart to mark completion of Noosa Heads’ Langura Street upgrade, which will improve safety and traffic access through this high traffic area.
Mr Joyce said the project is part of $4.36 million in funding for Noosa Council under the first three phases of the Local Road and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.
“This is another example of the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government supporting local councils to deliver local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“The $2.5 billion Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program will support jobs and local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Llew O’Brien said the fully federally funded upgrade would ensure safer roads for local traffic, as well as improving accessibility for the nearby police station, fire station and ambulance service.
“A new road surface at Langura Street and the Cooyar Street roundabout will make it safer for traffic using the busy intersection, and ensure the ongoing safety of the Noosa community by improving access for emergency service vehicles,” Mr O’Brien said.
“It will further drive Noosa’s economic recovery by supporting local jobs throughout construction, and help boost the region’s resilience as we rebuild from COVID-19.”
Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart applauded the Commonwealth Government for its ongoing support to the Noosa community.
“This funding is a huge boost for the shire and will certainly improve infrastructure and generate economic activity,” she said.
“We have a strong relationship with our local Federal Member Llew O’Brien and it’s great to have the opportunity to meet Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce to outline how this funding will deliver projects that create jobs and enhance the liveability of our community.”
