Bells Bridge enters superfast broadband era

Superfast broadband has arrived in Bells Bridge as the nbn makes services available to more than 140 homes and businesses. Residents in Bells Bridge can begin ordering their nbn service from a retail service provider this week.

 

Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said residents in Bells Bridge should take full advantage of the opportunities available in Australia’s new high-speed broadband era.

“The Australian Government’s National Broadband Network will boost productivity and provide a platform for innovation to ensure the economic and social benefits of the internet are available to every Australian,” Mr O’Brien said.

“The development of digital technologies has reduced business costs, changed how our children study and learn, and created many more ways to engage socially.”

The nbn’s next generation connectivity is fast and reliable, enabling households and small businesses to be more productive and better connected for years to come.

Homes and business in Bells Bridge will be connected to the nbn using fixed wireless technology. Fixed wireless technology offers wholesale download speeds of up to 50 Mbps, more than twice as fast as ADSL2+ services experienced in metropolitan areas.

Mr O’Brien said the rollout in the Wide Bay was gathering pace thanks to nbn’s simplified network construction and the company’s strong relationship with local contractors. 

“Our changes to Labor’s original rollout have prevented monthly internet bills increasing by up to $43 per month and saved around $30 billion in project funding,” Mr O’Brien said.

The Turnbull Coalition Government is rolling out high-speed broadband across Australia in the fastest and most affordable way, with every home and business in Australia to be able to connect to the nbn by 2020. Today, more than 4 million homes and businesses across Australia can connect to the nbn, and there are more than 1.8 million active users. This compares to just 51,000 connections in the six years of the previous Labor Government.

It typically takes a couple of weeks to connect up to the nbn after placing an order, and all residents will require new in-home equipment that is compatible with the faster nbn service.

Under the Coalition Government’s broadband policy, nbn has shaved years off construction time which will see the nbn connect to 3 out of every 4 homes and businesses in Australia in 2018. More information on how to connect to the nbn is available at www.nbnco.com.au
