$150,000 COMMITMENT FOR CCTV UPGRADE IN MARYBOROUGH

April 28, 2025

An elected Dutton LNP Government will provide $150,000 from a revitalised Safer Communities Fund (SCF) to upgrade the CCTV system in Maryborough.

Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien said the funding would help ensure people in the local Maryborough community feel safer as they go about their daily lives.

“This funding is a direct response to the concerns raised by our community. Criminal activity and anti-social behaviour are some of the hottest issues in Maryborough and improvements to the CCTV network will help make the Heritage City safer,” Mr O’Brien said.

“There’s already an extensive network of CCTV cameras throughout the city, but there’s a need to update, upgrade, and expand the system to cover crime hot spots and key public infrastructure locations.

“CCTV cameras deter would-be criminals and identify those who commit offences. Their presence causes people to think twice before committing an offence because they increase the chance of offenders being caught and prosecuted. This extra layer of protection will help make Maryborough’s streets safer.

“Residents and visitors deserve to feel safe when out in the  Maryborough community, and that’s why this commitment will assist the Rotary Club of Maryborough City, local police, and the Fraser Coast Regional Council to improve safety and security in Maryborough.”

This commitment builds on the LNP’s 2014 commitment of almost $200,000 to install 27 CCTV cameras in Maryborough.

Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Cyber Security, Senator James Paterson said under a Dutton Coalition Government, the Wide Bay community will be stronger, more secure, and better supported to tackle crime.

“Getting Australia Back on Track means keeping Australia safe – safe for families, safe for businesses, and safe for communities,” Senator Paterson said.

“Projects delivered under the Safer Communities Fund will help protect local communities by ensuring they have appropriate security infrastructure in place such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems and security lighting.”

The revitalised SCF will build on the programme established by the previous Coalition Government, delivering grant funding to councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community spaces, and promote social cohesion.

This commitment is part of the Liberals and Nationals’ plan to strengthen our local communities and to get Australia back on track. To find out more about our plan, please visit www.lnp.au/ontrack.
