$14,936 for Men’s Sheds in Wide Bay

November 12, 2019

Gympie, Kilkivan, Maryborough and Noosa Men’s Sheds in Wide Bay will share in almost $15,000 to support men’s health and wellbeing, Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien announced today.

The following sheds have received funding through Round 19 of the National Shed Development Programme:

  • Gympie Men’s Shed – $1200 for first aid training.
  • Kilkivan Veteran’s and Community Men’s Shed – $3605 for first aid courses and equipment
  • Maryborough Men’s Shed – $2170 for tools and equipment
  • Noosa Men’s Shed – $7961 for first aid training, exercise equipment and electronics.

“Men’s Sheds play a valuable role in the community, and I’m pleased to be able to boost the resources of the Gympie, Kilkivan, Maryborough and Noosa Men’s Sheds with this funding,” Mr O’Brien said.

“Belonging to a social group and staying connected people around us is really important for mental and emotional wellbeing, and this is why our local Men’s Sheds are such important places for men to meet up, have a chat and participate in projects.”

Minister for Health Greg Hunt congratulated the four Men’s Sheds on their grants, but also on the tremendous work they continue to do supporting the health and well-being of men in Wide Bay.

“Men are known to bottle things up and in Gympie, Kilkivan, Maryborough and Noosa, the  Men’s Shed is encouraging men to reach out for the support they need for better health and wellbeing — great for them, their families and the wider community,” Minister Hunt said.

Since 2013, the Government has provided $4.92 million through the National Shed Development Programme to support Men’s Sheds across Australia.

A total of 135 men’s sheds were allocated funding under round 19.

The Morrison Government is able to provide unprecedented levels of support for men’s health because of its strong economic management.
